Connecting sensing, machine learning, and real-world applications to understand people and their environments.

01

Sensing for Care & Healthy Aging

We study ways to recognize the daily activities of older adults and the work of caregivers. By bringing together activity logs and measurements of physical or psychological state, we aim to support care reporting and a better understanding of caregiver workload.

BLE-based activity logging, caregiver stress analysis, and sensor-based walking and exercise support.

02

Human Activity & State Recognition

We combine wearable and environmental sensors to capture everyday behavior. Our work includes SipSense for beverage type and volume estimation, FocusSense for concentration estimation, and device-free recognition of activities in living spaces.

Acoustic sensing, multimodal concentration estimation, Doppler sensing, and daily activity recognition.

03

Smart Spaces & Cities

We explore how everyday spaces can sense people and support their activities. Research ranges from turning ordinary furniture into touch interfaces to wireless crowd sensing and participatory sensing for tourism.

Vibration-based interfaces, Wi-Fi sensing, participatory sensing, and context-aware services.

04

Wireless Localization & In-body Systems

We investigate localization and wireless communication for devices in challenging environments, including the human body. This work combines wireless and magnetic-field measurements with machine learning to support future medical and healthcare systems.

Magnetic-field-based localization, implant communications, UWB, and RFID localization.
